Berlin's architecture and architecture ‘made in Berlin' enjoy worldwide acclaim and attention. The variety of ideas, the technical perfection with which it is implemented and the attention to ecological aspects are essential factors which characterise the building culture in and from Berlin. In the past year, marvellous new buildings, astonishing facelifts and wonderful interiors have been designed and created - not only in the capital itself but also in other countries. An essay has been allocated to each of the eight topic sections. These essays look at what is currently happening in Berlin on the ever-changing architectural front. The essays deal with topics such as the urbanisation of the government district, architectural drawings and archiving them as well as an international comparison of underground stations from the point of view of contemporary design.

The German capital is characterized by a lively, heterogeneous and innovative architectural scene with high technical and design standards. Berlin Architecture serves as a showcase of Berlins architectural output. Each of the eight chapters features essays on current issues, trends and developments that provide reflective insights and accompany the exemplary collection of around 70 projects. The chapter on residential architecture, for example, discusses the interest of creative urban clients in the high-rise apartment buildings of the 1960s and 1970s that were frowned upon for a long time. Another essay focuses on the different aspects of corporate architecture as 'constructed logos'. Other topics include the importance of archeological display areas for urban planning or new chances for architecture through privately sponsored museums.

#books #architecture | LP architektur : bauten und projekte = buildings and projects, 2008-2014

LP architektur has created a richly varied body of work in the ten years it has existed. The office's breakthrough came at the 2006 Winter Oympics in Turin with the emblematic Austria House, in which Tom Lechner, the LP managing partner blended tradition with modernity. LP Architektur has won a number of Austrian architecture awards since then. In an area defined by turbo-tourism, the Salzburg office’s buildings have become beacons of regional identity that now reach beyond the borders of Salzburg. LP architektur sees its designs as psychograms that are the reflections of the individual desires and dreams of their clients. This selection of 23 buildings complements the works presented in the first monograph published in 2006 and shows how broad the spectrum of the architect’s work has become in the meantime.

#books #architecture | Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects

Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects / Michael J. Crosbie.

Pelli Clarke Pelli, founded in 1977 by Cesar Pelli, is an architectural office of worldwide renown. They are known in particular for their elegant and technically advanced tower designs. These are usually characterized by taut, seamless envelopes without exposed profiles – their visual structure is achieved by subtly staggered forms or variations in the colour or materiality of the façade glazing. The unusual office structure of Pelli Clarke Pelli informs the work: an almost craft-like perception of architectural design and a close personal relation with the client are typical for their approach. A model-making workshop within the office helps to find the appropriate form. Many projects also fulfil urbanistic roles: They create urban spaces or act as iconic landmarks within the city fabric. The publication encompasses a selection of works from the past eight years. Amongst the documented projects are Bloomberg Tower in New York, Minneapolis Central Library, Transbay Transit Center in San Francisco, National Museum of Art in Osaka, Xiao Bai Lo Tower in Tianjin and Torre Cajasol in Sevilla.

Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects announces the release of its first survey publication
New Haven, Conn., 2013-12-18

Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, one of the world’s leading architectural offices, announces the release of its first survey publication, Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, which documents works from the past eight years, 2005–2012. The 300-page book details over 70 international projects from 2005–2012, includes interviews with the principals, and looks to the future with a preview of work slated for 2013 and beyond.

Having practiced with Eero Saarinen; Daniel, Mann, Johnson & Mendenhall in Los Angeles; and Gruen Associates, Cesar Pelli assumed the Deanship of the Yale Architecture School and simultaneously founded what is now Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects in 1977.  Helmed in partnership with Fred Clarke and Rafael Pelli, the firm has designed many of the world’s most recognizable buildings, including the World Financial Center in New York, the Petronas Towers in Malaysia, and the International Finance Centre in Hong Kong.  Known for having no “signature” style, the principals take great pride in being directly involved with every project, championing the client and environmentally sustainable design.

They are known in particular for their elegant and technically advanced tower designs, characterized by taut, seamless envelopes without exposed profiles.  Their visual structure is achieved by subtly staggered forms or variations in the color or materiality of the façade glazing. The unusual office structure of Pelli Clarke Pelli facilitates an almost craft-like perception of architectural design and a close personal relation with the client.

Architecture critic Michael J. Crosbie walks through the origins of the firm to present, outlining touchstones of design and core values. From their earliest project to design an addition to and residential tower for the Museum of Modern Art in New York to the Minneapolis Central Library and the World Financial Center East Pavilion, Crosbie elucidates the underpinning characteristics of Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects’ design.

Amongst the documented projects are Bloomberg Tower in New York, Minneapolis Central Library, Transbay Transit Center in San Francisco, National Museum of Art in Osaka, International Finance Center in Shanghai and Torre Sevilla in Seville.

#libros #arquitectura | El arte decorativo de hoy

El arte decorativo de hoy / Le Corbusier
EUNSA, Pamplona : 2013
1 v. (pag. var.) : il.
Colección: Colección de l'Esprit Nouveau
ISBN 9788431329532
Sbc Aprendizaje  A-7.036 ART
