Fron as aerly as the beginning of the 20th century, the great wave of modern architecture has had a major lasting impact, despite a temporary stall due to WWII, on architecture throughout the world, and especially on residential architecture that is directly connected to lifestyles of everyday people. This surge has directed our living spaces to move into a different phase, while it continued to mature with the changes of society, delivering the ‘contemporary house’ to every corner of the world by the end of the century. Never before the 20th century has there been a time when such amount of space was devoted to works of residential architecture in the history of architecture around the globe, representing the extent of popularization and individualization that architecture has undergone. While standardization, industrialization and manualization in response to vast/diverse masses were in keeping with the principles of modern architecture, they simultaneously brought about many examples of ‘facilitation’ and ‘losing of substance’ that only rely on imageries of silhouettes. Expendable ‘silhouettes’ transformed themselves as ‘styles’ such as Mod, PoMo and Decon, but in a larger context, they have been, since the modern times, a ‘bird in a cage’ of modernism that remained unchanged. No matter how the style changed, the fundamental frame and its requirements never did: the house was always there to wrap around people’s everyday living i.e. lifestyle, reflecting what goes on inside to show it to the outside.
