Based in southern California, Morphosis is headed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Thom Mayne. Photographer Yukio Futagawa visited two exceptional private homes designed by the firm and located in California. Completed in 1991 and 1997, respectively, the Crawford and Blades residences successfully combine domestic spatial quality and everyday life with the pure formal philosophy of Morphosis. The two homes reflect the pinnacle of the freedom of lifestyle and unique architecture of the West Coast, clearly seen in this series of stunning, large-format photographs. “Groundscape House”, an essay by Yoshio Futagawa, sheds light on their conception and meaning.
