Mi Lisboa, quiere ser una colección de fragmentos escritos e imágenes desde el empeño subjetivo que supone una construcción hecha de viajes y libros; gentes, situaciones, atmósferas y… Lisboa.

La demarcación de esta Lisboa, discurre entre desastres e invenciones, entre el uno de noviembre de 1755 y el 30 de noviembre de 1935 aproximadamente, y a la luz del drama-romance pessoano. Y así sus parajes  y entornos conservan la huella de diversos hechos y realidades que han marcado la historia de la ciudad portuguesa, vinculados en lo emocional y lo poético al portugués Fernando Pessoa.

Una realidad exterior, marcada por la destrucción-construcción de Lisboa. Ciudades heridas o desaparecidas, como: Canopus, Herakleion, Babilonia, Pompeya, Londres, San Francisco, Berlín, Dresde, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, etc. a causa de ser  Lisboa una ciudad de terremotos en los siglos XIV, XVI, XVII y XVIII, los de 1724 y 1750, hasta el de 1755 que trastocará de manera definitiva el destino de lo moderno, inaugurando un tiempo de desastres naturales-artificiales encadenados.

Y una realidad interior, en la que una vez perdido el mejor de los mundos posibles, se manifiesta como inquietud ambiental, atmosféricas  donde el cotidiano más real es el formado por  un conjunto de fingimientos, máscaras y creaciones que si habláramos en términos clínicos vendrían a mostrar el síntoma-Lisboa, un imaginario para después de la catástrofe. Realidad de través, como el proyecto de escritura de Fernando Pessoa, un trabajo de construcción, hecho de intersección de textos y autores.

The Luz Integrated Health Complex, comprising the Hospital da Luz and the Casas da Cidade (Senior Residences), is situated in the Luz neighbourhood, to the north of Lisbon. Designed by the Lisbon-based architectural firm RISCO, it is seen as a benchmark for state-of-the-art developments in hospital architecture.

In her text Catherine Slessor describes it as follows: »This project is striking on many levels, but most notably in the way that it rationalises, dignifies and humanises a large and complex healthcare programme. Perhaps the best and most paradoxical epithet that any critic can offer is that the Hospital da Luz doesn’t particularly look or feel like a hospital. Rather, the architecture reconceptualises the notion what that might be, and then skilfully socializes this notion so that it becomes a built and experiential reality. And in doing so, another subtle shift is applied to the evolving continuum of the hospital as one of the modern era’s most fundamental yet elusive building types.«

There are further contributions by Luís Santiago Baptista and Axel Hinrich Murken who provides a comprehensive overview of the history of hospital architecture. In addition to the large selection of plans and images there are various texts by architects and engineers who were involved in the construction.

Catherine Slessor studied architecture at the University of Edinburgh and is currently editor of The Architectural Review. Luís Santiago Baptista is an architect with a PhD in history of contemporary art from the FCSH/UNL. He is the director of the magazine arq/a. Axel Hinrich Murken studied medicine, history and history of art in Bonn, Hamburg, Cologne and Münster. Between 1981 and 2003 he was professor of the history of medicine and hospitals at the RWTH Aachen. Founded in 1974, the architecture and urban design atelier RISCO has been responsible for projects such as the Belém Cultural Centre (in association with Vittorio Gregotti), and the Expo ’98 site, both in Lisbon, the Estádio do Dragão football stadium in Porto, and most recently for the adaptation of the Lisbon International Fair to host the NATO Summit 2010. Together with his brother Sérgio Guerra, Fernando Guerra, a graduated architect, founded the studio FG+SG – Fotografia de Arquitectura in 1999. His photographic work is represented in various private and public collections.
