The latest volume in this series on the Novartis Campus in Basel is devoted to the laboratory building by Portuguese architect Eduardo Souto de Moura. For him, the wall is the pivotal supporting element in a building, and therefore stone is the most important building material. Yet the design for the seven-storey laboratory envisaged an almost transparent structure with three brick stele in the entrance foyer by artist Pedro Cabrita Reis. This monographic publication explores this apparent contradiction with an essay on the building by architect Akos Moravanszky, plus a text about the artwork by art historian Jacqueline Burchkardt and photographs by Paolo Rosselli.
