[.en] After a long period of expectation for its reprint, a new edition of Another Scale of Architecture is now available. With his words, model pictures, drawings, and corresponding scientific reference materials taken from the catalog (SEIGENSHA Art Publishing, 2010) printed for his solo show at the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art in 2010, the book has been reorganized with a codex binding, which allows the book pages to open 180 degrees. Five natural elements--clouds, forest, horizon, sky, and rain--are selected as keywords that support Ishigami's architectural thinking, in which various scales are flexibly altered from micro to macro, and from space to time. Possibilities for future architecture are discussed by alternately looking at large-scale models and actual works, and their scientific reference materials.

Junya Ishigami believes there are many differences between conventional architecture, as an artificial environment, and the natural environment – different forms and systems, different degrees of diversity, and different time. Yet the most fundamental difference of them all is scale, from subatomic particles, insects and animals, and the human world, to the global scale and even the incomprehensible vastness beyond our planet. In this book, Ishigami poses questions about how to bring this entire spectrum of scales into the realm of architecture, expanding its concept to embrace fluctuation and vagueness through five themes: Clouds, Forest, Horizon, Sky, Rain.
