First two numbers of the extremely rare periodical written entirely by Adolf Loos (his first separately published work), of which only five numbers appeared. Original stapled wraps, totally uncut; 12 p. per issue (excluding printed wrappers); with a total of 5 ill. (4 from drawings and one from a photograph), exclusive of advertisements. Das Andere was "¿a journal for the introduction of Western Civilization in Austria'", in which Loos "discussed the daily life of his contemporaries, and criticized them relentlessly. As a participant in most of the city's artistic events, he arduously defended endeavors at new expressions against the distrust or hostility of the public." (Tournikiotis, Adolf Loos, 1994, p. 14). According to Tournikiotis, Loos' writings are central to the question of his role as a modernist architect and his more recent rediscovery as a forerunner of post-modernism. Because of its newspaper format and limited audience (Loos' fellow Viennese), Das Andere is much rarer than most art periodicals of the period. Covers slightly soiled; original staples rusted but present; otherwise very good.
